ESPN shuts down Grantland months after parting ways with Bill Simmons

Five months after parting ways with star writer Bill Simmons, ESPN announced Friday that it is shutting down his signature creation: Grantland, the sports and popular culture Web site whose eclectic, irreverent mix of content earned acclaim and praise but probably not profits in its four-year run.
